Rock Climbing in Donegal & Inishowen


Rock climbing in the Donegal wilderness is without a doubt an experience unparalleled anywhere else throughout Ireland. Donegal’s dramatic 400 KM coastline offers high quality single & multi-pitch climbing at renowned venues such as Muckross Head, Sail Rock, Malin Beg and the ever popular Culdaff area, Dunmore Head in Inishowen, which is the original home to Ireland’s one and only climbing festival ‘Climb Fest’ (www.climbfest.co.uk).


The accessible offshore islands of Aranmore, Cruit, Owey and the delightful and much frequented island of Gola provides a rock climbing experience which lives long in a climber’s memory. These islands have hundreds of climbs on perfect golden granite above the vast Atlantic Ocean in the shadow of Donegal’s iconic Mount Errigal and the dramatic glacial caldron of the Poisoned Glen, an experience not to be missed!


The recent development of ‘sea stack’ climbing around the county has helped to copper fasten Donegal’s position as the climbing capital of Ireland. Ascents of over 50 new previously unclimbed sea stacks since 2007 around the stunning coastline on both single and multi-pitch stacks, many of which are equal to those found in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.


The inland mountain areas of the rugged and beautiful ‘Blue Stack Mountains’ near Donegal Town, the ‘Delta’ faces of Lough Barra and the Poisoned Glen in the Derryveagh Mountains all combine to provide an unforgettable odyssey of rock climbing for both the experienced and novice alike.

Thursday & Friday Evenings - € 50 p.p. - Location Culdaff, Inishowen, Donegal.

Historical Rock Climbing Course:

Join us on this totally unique rock climbing course. Over the duration of this course we will take you to new and unclimbed areas, where you will be able to make a number of first ascents as either a lead climber or second, depending on your experience level.

Cost: € 99 p.p. Based on 1:2 ratio. Location - Venues throughout Donegal.
